EQ

EQ Definition - What is EQ?

What does EQ stand for?

EQ is short for equalization. It is the process of boosting or reducing the levels of different frequencies in a signal. The sounds that we hear come in a range of frequencies, ranging from treble to bass. In situations where it is desired to increase or decrease certain specific frequency ranges, a device called an equalizer is used. Equalizers are able to boost (strengthen) or cut (weaken) the energy of specific frequencies and/or frequency ranges. Some ways equalizers are used are to cut the sound of the audience in public address systems and to make certain instruments or voices in a recording more prominent.
