Fade Definition - What is a Fade?

Fade refers to a gradual change in the level of an audio signal. This can be used in many ways. For example, a sound may "fade in" or "fade out", referring to gradually getting louder or softer, such as at the beginning or end of a piece of music. "Fading" may also refer to the gradual adjustment of the output source of audio. For example, in a scenario where the audio is coming through the left channel more loudly than the right channel, you might seek to equalize the volume by fading (slowly adjusting) the signal level down on the left until it matches the signal level on the right
